About the book:

All this time we all thought we knew the story of the 3 little pigs. No one ever thought about what the story might be from the wolf's perspective, did we? No one until Jon Scieszka decided to give it a whirl and get the scoop from the wolf himself. Alexander T. Wolf tells his side of the story in attempts to set all the theories about him being Big and Bad straight. Basically, one day a wolf with a cold was baking a cake for his granny's birthday and ran out of sugar. So he ventured off to his neighbor's house who just so happened to be a pig with a straw house. The pig didn't answer the door and was about to leave when he sneezed and knocked the entire straw house over. This resulted in a pig casualty and the wolf did what any hungry wolf would do at this point, he ate the pig. The story goes on similarly as the wolf's quest for sugar continues until the wolf visits each little pig and each of their houses - the straw house, the stick house, and the house made of bricks. Long story short, the wolf was framed and this story is all about how that went down.
Book Review:
I give this book 4 owls. I find this story amusing and think that children would get a kick out of it as well. It's different than the typical 3 little pigs story that everyone knows and is a fairy tale that would encourage young children to think outside of the box. It promotes imagination and creativity and more so, laughter. This is a great book to use for a lesson about perspective showing the contrast between the original classic tale and this version. Additionally, this book can appeal to a variety of readers of different ages, not just children. Growing up we have always been told the 3 little pigs story depicting the wolf as the villain and to see him depicted differently is interesting and fun for adults as well.
