Cops for Sale, by Esphyr Slobodkina, is the story about a peddler who walks around town selling caps. The unusual part about this peddler is that he wears all of the caps he sells on his head! He walks around town with stacks of different hats on his head trying to sell them. Not having any luck, the peddler decides to take a nap under the tree with his hats still on his head. He sleeps for awhile, and when he wakes up all of his caps but his checked cap are missing. After looking everywhere, he looks up into the tree and sees a bunch of monkeys  wearing his hats. The peddler tries yelling at the monkeys for taking his caps but all they do is mock him. In disgust, he throws off his own checked hat and to his surprise the monkeys do the same. The peddler collects all of his caps back, stacks them on his head, and carries on with his day selling 50 cent caps.
